#DREAMmix – My Inspirational Playlist

I often find myself rushing around my apartment trying to find my essentials before I head out the door–my cellphone, my keys, my wallet, but most importantly.. my headphones. Growing up in New York City I’ve learned to naturally tune-out the noise of the concrete jungle, but if I’m walking around the city alone I always have my headphones on. You could probably never guess what kind of music I’m listening to. My iTunes varies from pop to gospel music, to hip hop, to country, and of course Spanish music–but whatever it is, somewhere in my playlist there’s usually a song that inspires me.earphones+LOVE

“You know there is no wrong way to be inspired. And different people are inspired by different things. You know for some it’s love, or money, or peace, or even sex (laughs). But regardless of what it is, or who you are, or even how loudly you live your life, we’re all at the end of the day, just in search of happiness. ~ JASFLY

It’s amazing what music can do–it’s like therapy–when you sing the lyrics at the top of your lungs releasing whatever it is you’re feeling at the moment. Someone once told me “I don’t know how to express how I feel about you, so I’ll show you through music”…. Beautiful. For one of my first blog posts, I shared VH1 Gossip Game’s JasFly’s #DreamMix–a celebration of the idea that anything is possible and that dreams do come true. JasFly collaborated with celebrities asking them what songs inspired them through their journey to success, and then made a mixtape that included the songs. From the Vibe.Com interview….

What is The #DREAMmix? Jasfly: Remember when you used to listen to the radio to record your favorite songs to cassette tape? Well the #DREAMmix is an homage to that.

Where did it come from? Jasfly: I think it was Chuck Creekmur who posted a quote, “Learn what inspires those that inspire you.” And that really stuck with me. I make playlists to meditate to, and I was in my house one afternoon when the idea came, ‘I wonder what other people listen to when they need inspiration.’ And so I began finding out.
